Maine Minimum Wage Rate

assistant cheesemaker/intern

Job Description:

To learn and assist in the making of award-winning fresh sheep and goat milk

cheeses and Skyr. You will be trained in both on-site and online how to

make/produce, handle, and package raw milk and dairy products in a Dairy Food

In a safe manner.

Report to: Owner/Cheesemaker

Overview and Major Areas of Accountability:

Self- motivated to succeed, meet deadlines, and follow through on tasks

Assist in the production tasks of making cheese, from the intake of milk

through to the packaging of the cheese

Assist in the sanitation and cleanup of the production area

Assist in creating/following the production schedule

Assist with keeping an organized and accurate inventory

Assist in the packaging processes of cheese and prepare orders for delivery

Strong attention to detail for accuracy in all facets of the position

assist in the development and creation of new S.O.P’s in the cheese kitchen as

we develop new products and procedures.

Advanced Goal: Learn how and when to measure the pH of milk/cheese and how

to interpret and address +/- pH during the ‘Make Process.’

The candidate must have:

An attitude that is positive, adaptable, and flexible as farm priorities shift

frequently.

Ability to take and follow directions; asking questions when instruction is not

clear enough. Ability to think ahead and anticipate next steps.

Strong verbal communication, organization skills, and common sense

Either arrive with Dairy Food Safety basic course or take online training when

you arrive. At a minimum have ServSafe certification.


General: We all do everything here and so will you! If you are a licensed driver

- you may be asked to make some deliveries with our vehicles. If you prefer

using your own, we will reimburse standard mileage.

With rare exception (sometimes Fridays during the busy season and birthing

season is just a wild card) - there is a 2 hour lunch break EVERY day

Farm hand/intern

Job Description:

Report to: Owner/Flerdboss

Overview and Major Areas of Accountability:

Learn how to milk sheep and goats; assist with and learn a variety of animal husbandry tasks and protocols.

The candidate must:

An attitude which is positive, adaptable, and flexible as farm priorities shift frequently

Ability to take and follow direction; asking questions when instruction is not clear enough

Strong communication skills are required when interacting with customers, visitors and volunteers

Observe and honor all Three Charm Farm, LLC policies for confidentiality, protecting intellectual property

Work Environment: In the barn/pastures, and milking parlor - you may be asked to make some deliveries with our vehicles. If you prefer using your own, we willreimburse standard mileage.

The primary focus of this position is to work on projects related to, but not limited to the following:

Learn how to safely and appropriately handle raw milk, Animal learning, and tasks:

General barn chores

You will learn how to support Does, Ewes, and their babies during pregnancy, labor, delivery, infancy, and weaning

You will learn to milk both goats and sheep by hand as well as with our in-line milking system

You will learn and follow our S.O.P. for cleaning and sanitizing all milking equipment and why certain chemicals are used at various stages of the process

You will learn a LOT about sheep and goat mammary systems, i.e. udders, teats, health of, diseases of, prevention/treatment of

disease/illness, general confirmation and how it supports the mammary system;

You will learn, assist, do, and teach how to trim sheep and goat feet, trim udders, etc.

You will learn, assist, and do Sub-Q medications/vaccinations and learn our animal health protocols and why we do what we do.

General: We all do everything here and so will you! From carpentry, gardening, grain runs, interacting with customers/volunteers/visitors, posting on social media, general administrative and business tasks - the list unending.
