Doering School Director of Bands

Zachary J. Scherpa

Mr. Scherpa holds a Bachelors of Music Education and Bachelors of Special Education where he graduated from Westfield State University with honors Magna Cum Laude and as a member of 2 Honor Societies. The summer after graduation Mr. Scherpa started his career at the Doering School when it was call the Agawam Middle School, later earning Masters of Music Education from Westfield State University as well. He has the enjoyed working there his whole career so far. Mr. Scherpa works hard to ensure his students are inspired, excited and happy to come to Band. Every year of his teaching Mr. Scherpa has had very successful 5th and 6th grade Concert Bands as well as a rocking Jazz Band.

Mr. Scherpa is heavily involved with the Massachusetts Music Educators Association and the Western Districts Chapter having served as an ensemble manager and is the current Woodwind and Brass Coordinator. Mr. Scherpa resides in a neighboring town with his wife and their twin boys. And yes, he did conduct in a concert with a lightsaber.
