Winton's big-hearted students lead the way in a tree-planting project

21st November 2019

On 21st November, 14 students wrapped and braved the cold to take part in Andover Trees United’s Planting Fortnight. Our students were given the opportunity to work in pairs to plant their own tree, adding to this important environmental project. However, they really rose to the challenge when the year 2s and 5s from Endeavour arrived; from this point onwards, they become leaders. All of our students expertly supported the primary school students to plant their trees; displaying a patience and good humour many teachers would envy!

After lunch, a cuppa and a chocolate biscuit by the log burner they were ready to go back to work as 50 students from Vigo arrived. Again, they were a credit to Winton as they ensured every student was involved in planting their tree. Although in the break between groups a quick round of star jumps was needed to help warm up again!

Our third important job of the day was to plant Winton’s elm tree. This tree will stand at Harmony Woods as a constant reminder of the day, whilst also representing our community and the work that we do to improve our environment.
