FAFSA stands for Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It is the form used by U.S. citizens and eligible non-citizens to apply for federal, state, and institutional financial aid for college or career school. It determines eligibility for grants, work-study funds, and low-interest student loans.
In Alabama, there is a graduation requirement pertaining to FAFSA. Students have two choices for fulfilling this graduation requirement.
Option 1 - Complete the FAFSA online at www.studentaid.gov. The FAFSA opens on October 1st each year.
Option 2 - Sign a FAFSA non-participation waiver. FAFSA waivers will be distributed after Christmas break.
Students who are not yet 18 years old will need to have a parent/guardian sign the waiver.
Students who are 18 years old can sign the waiver without a parent/guardian.
