In 2016-2017, The Jones Inquiry and MakerSpace Lab continued to have daily use. This year we saw an addition to our ACSF Innovators grant through the installation of our Lego Wall. The 2016-2017 school year saw the beginnings of a district STEAM team supported by the Asheville Museum of Science.
In the fall 2016, our 4th and 5th grade classes used the Engineering Design Process of Ask, Imagine, Plan, Create, Improve to design a cardboard arcade game based on the Imagination Foundation's Global Cardboard Challenge by Caine's Arcade. The Jones Cardboard Arcade was then open to all other grade levels to come PLAY! On Saturday November 5th, we joined the other ACS elementary schools and Asheville Adventure Play for a Day of Play.
This spring, classes at each grade level engaged in STEAM lessons that integrated literature with engineering. Students collaborated in small groups and used the Engineering Design Process to build fishing poles, parachutes, and more.
Jones hosted a STEAM Community Night at The Wesley Grant Center for families to learn more about STEAM, eat, and have a good time.
After school club for 3rd - 5th graders to design, build, test, redesign, test again!
