Day 1:
Upon our afternoon arrival to Athens International Airport, our guides will be waiting to meet us. We depart for Nafplion by private motor coach with a stop for photos and a snack at the Corinthian Canal, a four miles narrow cut of land, connecting the waters of the Saronic with the Corinthian Gulfs. We arrive at Nafplion, the picturesque town which was the first capital of modern day Greece, and enjoy walking through the narrow streets. We continue to the Hotel Amalia for check in, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2:
Breakfast at the hotel. At 8:15 a.m. we depart for our visit to Epidaurus, the Sanctuary of Asclepeios the ancient god of healing. Here we will see the best-preserved ancient Theatre in all of Greece, famous for the harmony of its design and the perfection of its remarkable acoustics, easily accommodating 12,000 people. We will have permission for a 15-minute performance in the theater. After a stop for lunch at Kolizeras restaurant, we will visit ancient Mycenae and see the remains of the prehistoric citadel fortified with Cyclopean walls, the Lionesses' Gate, the Mycenaean Palace and the tomb of King Agamemnon. Our day ends with a visit the Silo Art Factory, where we will have the opportunity to see how Greek pottery is made and actually make our own pottery, which we take home with us. (Group will visit one bus at a time.) We then return to Nafplion and enjoy free time in the town before returning to the Hotel Amalia for a late dinner and overnight.
Day 3:
After breakfast, we check out of the hotel and drive to Ancient Corinth. Here we will see all of the Greek and Roman sites: the Agora, the Temple of Apollo, the Roman Odeon, the Bema, and Gallio’s Seat, the Theatre. We then visit the small Museum, which is an eye opener! After lunch at Marinos, we begin our drive to Athens. We enjoy a visit to the Panathenaic Stadium before continuing to Kolonaki Square where we enjoy a challenging walk up to Lycabettus Hill. After our visit we continue to the Divani Palace Acropolis for check in. We will have free time for shopping in the Plaka or sightseeing. Return to the hotel for a late dinner and overnight.
Day 4:
Breakfast at the hotel and morning departure for our community service experience. We will plant 2 trees each in an area of Attica where the trees were destroyed by fires. The new trees that will be planted will be recorded and then taken care of. Future groups from the American Community School will be able to see their progress. After a break for lunch we depart for Sounion to visit the Temple of Poseidon and view the beautiful sunset. We will stop at one of the beaches so students can put their feet in the Aegean Sea. Return to Athens and enjoy dinner on our own in the Plaka. Overnight at the Hotel in Athens.
Day 5:
Breakfast at the hotel. Check out and load our luggage on the motor coach. Our morning begins with a visit to the new Acropolis Museum; a walk through its galleries is a walk through history-between the masterpieces of the Archaic and Classical periods and the ancient neighborhoods of Athens. We then climb up to the marble-capped Acropolis to visit the famous Parthenon and the Erechtheum. We enjoy a panoramic bus ride viewing the highlights of modern Athens: we pass by the tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Parliament House, Panathenian Stadium, Temple of Olympian Zeus, the Academy, the University and the National Library. Enjoy lunch at the Hard Rock Café and then we depart for Arachova, a mountainous village nestling picturesquely at the foot of Mt. Parnassos, which is also a cosmopolitan winter destination. Upon arrival we will have some free time to explore the area and do some shopping. Continue to the Hotel Domotel Anemolia for check in, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 6:
Breakfast at the hotel and then continue to visit Delphi, home of the famous Oracle. Delphi was inhabited from Mycenaean times (14th-11th c. B.C) by small settlements that were dedicated to the Mother Earth deity and became internationally known for the priestess Pythia who pronounced her famous oracles that foretold the future. The ancient people of the Mediterranean had such faith in her view of the future that no major decision was made without consulting the Oracle of Delphi first. After visiting the archaeological site and museum, we enjoy lunch at a local restaurant and return to Arachova. We will venture out in small groups for some shopping. Return to the Hotel Domotel Anemolia for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7:
After an early breakfast, we check out and begin our drive to Athens International Airport where we check in for our departure flight home.
