MS4020 Science 8
The 8th-grade science course further develops the skills necessary to apply scientific practices to solve real world problems, while recognizing the uses and limitations of science and develop a positive attitude towards all areas of study in Science. Students continue the exploration of scientific phenomena through an inquiry-based learning experience.
Emphasis is given on mathematical applications and data analysis. The areas of study include physics, earth and space science. Physics topics focus on the study of motion, forces, energy, gravity, electricity and magnetism. Earth and space science topics focus on the solar system, Earth cycles, weather and climate. By the end of the 8th grade, students have gained a solid foundation for high school science study.
The middle school science classes are currently in the process of implementing the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), which emphasize the integration of science and engineering practices, cross-cutting concepts, and disciplinary core ideas.
