Improve listening skills in class and for Tests
Before listening:
- Before you start a listening assignment, underline key words in the questions and answers before you listen. Think about what the answer might be and brainstorm key vocabulary for that topic.
- Look for synonyms and antonyms for keywords before you listen. This will help you to understand more in the text.
While listening:
- Cross out the wrong answers as you listen. This will help you to focus on the keywords in the correct answer.
- Write down keywords while you listen.
Practice listening at home
Practice listening at home
1. Listen to examples of spoken English with and without headphones. With headphones for IELTS practice and without headphones for classroom practice.
2. Listen to a variety of news channels or TV shows/movies for a range of accents.
3. Watch a movie without subtitles for around 3-5 minutes while writing down what you hear (this helps grammar/writing too), then play it back and check with the subtitles on the movie.
