MIT Outreach- Professional Development for Teachers
https://outreach.mit.edu/educator-activities/professional-development/
Participants meet in person for 4 full-day workshops, communicating in between meetings with MIT staff and with each other. Our educators learn how to design customized Maker projects and lead them effectively in typical classrooms, sharing results with the community and refining projects for the next class. An essential part of this 2-month training and coaching experience is the online Community of Practice component that enables the group to continue sharing ideas and experiences after the workshops are completed.
Engage your students with hands-on projects that foster creativity, critical thinking, and STEM awareness. Learn how you can lead successful Maker projects in your school!
In our full-day skills workshops you can learn how to use 3-D printers, laser/vinyl cutters, electronics, or Micro:bit computers in the classroom. In our new workshop “Maker Project Design” you can design and prototype project ideas using our resources and Makerspace.
The MIT Museum’s public maker space, the Idea Hub, is open year-round: every weekend and daily in the summer. Visitors can explore topics in design and engineering with artistic circuits, 3D printing, chain reactions, and a variety of other hands-on making and tinkering topics. Drop in each week and try out one of our many activities, including App Inventor, data sculptures, and programming with Scratch, and paper circuits.
The Lemelson-MIT Program, located within the School of Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), has been celebrating outstanding inventors and working to inspire young people to pursue creative lives and careers for twenty five years. We are now working to share what we have learned with educators across the U.S. as we believe that the development of creative and inventive mindsets is critical to young people’s ability to thrive in today’s technologically driven, rapidly changing world.
