It is the responsibility of the parents or guardians to ensure that their child attends school regularly and promptly. Open communication between the school, parents, and students is encouraged to address any challenges or concerns related to attendance and to promote a supportive and conducive learning environment for all students. If your student is absent or tardy, we ask that you please notify the school as soon as possible. When a student leaves during the course of the day, a parent/guardian must sign them out at the office. Students may not be checked out from the classroom. Parents are asked to notify the office, in writing, when they have prior knowledge of a student's upcoming absences and/or early dismissals. Your student’s attendance rates will be submitted to the Douglas County School District for review and further action will be taken if their absences become excessive. Additionally, if a parent requests school work during a student's absence, all assignments given during that period are due upon the student's return to school. Not all work can be given before an absence. Should the student receive missing work upon returning to school, assignments will be due two days after their return or the date determined by 4.3.2.
Tardiness is a failure to appear on time and is considered a form of absence. Repeated tardiness will be reported to the School Leaders and subsequently to the district. Consequences will be at the discretion of the School Leaders.
Excused absences are those resulting from temporary or extended illness, injury, medical appointments, religious observances, and/or school-approved activities. Additional time will be given to complete assignments. Students will receive one class day for each excused absence to make up their work. They will receive full credit if it is turned in within the allotted time frame. After this time has expired or the due date has passed, students will be graded accordingly. An absence will be marked unexcused if a doctor’s note is not brought in when a student is out sick for more than 3 days.
Unexcused absences are absences, with or without prior notification to the school, with a reason not included in 4.3.2. The student can make up missed work during an unexcused absence; however, extended time for the missed assignments will not be provided and assignments are due 2-days after assignments are given to the student. They will receive full credit if it is turned in within the allotted time frame. After this time has expired or the due date has passed, students will be graded accordingly.
Extended absences, defined as any absence exceeding 5 consecutive school days, require approval from the School Leaders. Parents/guardians must submit a written request for an extended absence to the School Leaders. These absences can be categorized as excused or unexcused, and the school's missed work and late policy will be applied accordingly.
We recognize the importance of maintaining academic progress despite disciplinary measures; this policy outlines procedures for the submission of assignments, completion of assessments, and management of missed instructional time, fostering a culture of accountability and responsibility. The student can make up missed work during the suspension however, extended time for the missed assignments will not be provided.
Any assignment assigned before suspension can be turned in for full credit no later than the day of return or original due date. The late policy will apply for assignments not turned in upon return to school.
Any work assigned during and due after the suspension can be submitted for full credit on its original due date. After the due date, the late policy will apply.
Any assessment missed during his or her suspension should be administered to the student during his or her lunch and/or intervention time upon return.
Any assignment given, collected, and graded on the day(s) of the suspension will receive no credit.

Please send an email to the school’s registrar if you plan to transfer or withdraw your student from Academy Charter School as soon as possible, so that all appropriate forms may be completed. This will allow us to process a student’s records, anticipate a request for records from the next school, and ensure a smooth and timely transfer or withdrawal process for all involved. Any tuition-based program requires a two-week notice.
Regular attendance ensures that students stay connected to their learning, maintain academic progress, and are part of the full school experience. Participating in after-school activities is a privilege that depends on engagement during the school day.
To participate in any after-school activity, rehearsal, practice, game, or performance, students must be present for at least 50% of the school day.
Exceptions or special circumstances may be considered at the discretion of the School Leader. Requests should be made in advance whenever possible.
