Fire Academy

OVERVIEW

The Graham High School Fire Academy is part of the Public Safety Academy. This program is for students that have or may have an interest in a career as a firefighter. The Academy offers Public Safety I, Firefighter Technology I, II, and III Honors classes that give the student an opportunity to earn the North Carolina Firefighter certification through the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal and the North Carolina Fire and Rescue Commission. Upon completing the certification, opportunities will open for employment right out of high school. While in the Fire Academy, the student will be equipped with the basic foundation of firefighter knowledge and skills and important life skills and soft skills that will make the student successful in their chosen career path.

Joel Davis - Fire Academy Chief

I am excited to be a part of the faculty of Graham High School, Alamance-Burlington School System (ABSS) and Career and Technical Education (CTE) Firefighter and Public Safety Academy. My desire is to bring the necessary classroom education and combine this with real-world applications.


Experience

Began career in Emergency Services in 1998

15 years with Burlington Fire Department

6 years with Alamance County EMS

1 year CareLink Critical Care Transport

3 years experience as Safety Director in private sector


Education

Earned Associate in Applied Science in Fire Science (2014) from Columbia Southern University

Earned B.S. of Science in Fire Science (2015) from Columbia Southern University, Graduated Summa Cum Laude

Working on Masters in Public Administration with a concentration in Emergency Management
