Principles of Family and Human Services

OVERVIEW

This course introduces students to life literacy skills and individual, family, and community systems in the context of the human services field. Emphasis is placed on human development, professional skills, diversity, analyzing community issues, and life management. Activities engage students in exploring various helping professions while building essential life skills they can apply in their own lives to achieve optimal wellbeing. English/language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, technology, interpersonal relationships are reinforced.

I graduated from East Carolina University in 1993 with a B.S. in Commercial and Community Recreation with a minor in Business. I then attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro where I received a Master’s Degree in Public Health Education. I worked in the public health field for 20 years before I became a teacher. This is my third year of teaching. My teaching license is in Allied Health with a provisional area in PE and Health. I’m working to obtain the provisional area in Family and Consumer Sciences by February of 2021.
