October 19, 2018

Thank you so much to everyone who donated and/or reached out to family and friends for donations for our Fun Run Fundraiser. The first graders did a FANTASTIC job running laps at the Fun Run today. You will have some tired children coming home to you this afternoon!

Highlights from Room 3

We love reading together in Room 3!

For shared reading, we have read many books such as Owl Moon, The Snowy Day, Thunder Cake and Make Way for Ducklings. Our focus with these stories has been determining the setting of the story. We also had discussions about how the setting impacts the characters and also the plot of the story.

We made our first tree observation!

We learned that scientists make observations about the world around them. We went outside to observe a tree and record in our science notebooks. We will observe this same tree during each season and keep track of any changes that occur during different seasons.

Math and Phonics Updates

Math: We have been learning and reviewing basic subtraction concepts. The children have been enjoying the opportunity to play math games with their classmates in order to practice the skills learned in our math lessons.

Fundations (our phonics program): Unit 2 focuses on learning how to “tap out” sounds in words. For more information on our Fundations program, please visit our classroom website and find the "Literacy Links" tab under "Important Links".
