October 4, 2018

The first graders have been working hard over the past couple of weeks. They have really shown a lot of progress in terms of learning our classroom routines. One of our main areas of focus has been on strategies for self-control and learning the expectations of how to behave in first grade. We have also been focusing on learning about each other and building a strong community in our classroom!

Highlights from Room 3

We met our Book Buddies!

We met our 4th grade book buddies and spent some time getting to know them. We will spend the end of the day on Thursdays with our book buddies at least once a month. See if your child remembers the name of their 4th grade buddy.

We started working in our science journals.

The first science unit that we work on is the seasons and weather. We have read, watched videos and have been discussing how the weather is different in all four seasons.

In addition, we track the weather each day and will compare the data of weather in each season.

Math and Phonics Updates

Math: Our first math assessment ("check-in") was completed this week. Your children did an excellent job showing what they learned about basic addition concepts. Please check your child's folder for their corrected assessments. Our next unit will be basic subtraction concepts.

Fundations (our phonics program): Unit 1 focuses on letter sounds and formation.
