Welcome To The College and Career Center Website
Many universities have recently chosen to be Test Blind or Test Optional. It is critical that you check with the schools to which you wish to apply. The UC System has made testing optional, while the CSU System has made testing blind. For more information on dates and registration deadlines, please see the links below. Unless they DO NOT require the SAT or ACT, the counseling department recommends that you take the exam/s. Universities accept either the ACT or the SAT, so you don't have to take both. It is advised you to take both once and then retake the one you liked best.
The SAT takes three hours and consists of three tests: (1) the Reading Test, (2) the Writing and Language Test, and (3) the Math Test. Compared to the ACT®, the SAT provides 43% more time per question:
Most of the questions are multiple choice, though some of the math questions ask you to write in the answer rather than select it.
On all questions, there’s no penalty for guessing: if you're not sure of the answer, it's better to guess than leave the response blank.
The ACT covers four areas: English, mathematics, reading and science. The ACT composite score is used for admission to college. The ACT also offers, as an option, the Writing Test. The CSU does not require the score from the Writing Test for admission purposes.
