The application for the annual paid LA Metro internship is live and due March 13, 2023. ABCUSD has been chosen by LA Metro as a school district who is eligible to participate.
This paid (stipend) internship will be a hybrid model - students will meet virtually, except for Fridays, in which students will meet at the LA Metro headquarters in Los Angeles. This internship is intended for all 11th and 12th grade students (2023 and 2024) - the work ranges from marketing/graphic design to transportation to engineering & app development to film video production - it truly covers all career interests as the project-based internship leans on the expertise and talents of a diverse group of students.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What to Expect
Students will work virtually starting Friday, June 23, 2023, and will present the final distanced-based learning project team presentations on Friday, August 4, 2023.
Mandatory project team break-out sessions will convene at 10am – 12pm or 1-3pm, at least twice a week for seven weeks. Days of the week will be determined by your team. These sessions will be virtual.
In-person: Mandatory in-service training sessions convene on Fridays from 8:30am – 3:30pm.
To be considered for this program, students must meet the following requirements:
Current high school juniors and seniors (class of 2023 and 2024) who have met program eligibility requirements
Must be between the ages of 16 – 18 years of age
Must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) 2.5 or better
U.S. citizens, permanent residents or high school students who have legal authorization to work in the United States
Student interns who successfully complete all aspects of the program will receive a paid stipend, at the end of the program. Last year the approved stipend amount per student was $1,000. Students can hold another job while participating in TCAP. They must, however, commit to attending the required meetings.
