The VHS Director Award was first instituted in 2016 when outstanding ABC alumnus Victor Hugo Salazar graduated from the Academia Británica Cuscatleca. The award is named after Victor Salazar because he participated in all ABC Digital Video Awards (previously known as ABC Oscars) from the very first version of the awards in 2009. He won at least one category nomination or award in every single iteration of the ABC Video Awards until his graduation in 2016; reflecting all the ABC traits and values which the ABC considers necessary to model a responsible, outstanding citizen. This category is awarded to the Director which submits a video that is outstanding in its scope, impact, and creativity. It rewards the Director who goes above and beyond to fulfill their creative vision. This award is chosen by the DVA Committee.
