Our Community & Partnerships
Fernielea School enjoys a dynamic partnership with Active Schools, spearheaded by the dedicated coordinator for the Hazlehead ASG, Emma Bryant. This collaboration is instrumental in providing pupils with engaging opportunities to participate in a variety of sports and physical activities, both during the school day and after hours.
Through this partnership, students at Fernielea can get involved in everything from athletics to multi-activity sessions. Emma Bryant works closely with the school to recruit and organize volunteers, ensuring a wide array of activities is available to all pupils, from P1 through to P7. Her efforts help to foster a positive and active school environment, encouraging students to stay healthy and discover a lifelong love of sport.

Fernielea School enjoys a close and meaningful community relationship with Summerhill Care Home in Aberdeen. Summerhill Home is a unique care home that aims to support the spiritual, physical, and social wellbeing of its residents. The partnership involves pupils from Fernielea visiting the home to socialise with residents, take part in planned activities, and learn from their older neighbours. In return, the Summerhill Care Home residents are invited to special events at the school, such as Christmas Concerts, fostering a warm and intergenerational connection for the whole community.
Fernielea Gospel Hall, our next door neighbours, actively fosters community links with Fernielea School. Paul from the Gospel Hall volunteers at the school, where he runs a weekly sports club and teaches RME (Religious and Moral Education) lessons. Additionally, some classes are invited to exhibitions within the Gospel Hall to further their learning. In addition to this Paul often leads our whole school assemblies.
Fernielea School benefits from strong community partner business links with Serica Energy, an upstream oil and gas company focused on the UK's North Sea. This valuable partnership has provided Fernielea School with a variety of resources over the years, including a collection of Chromebooks to support digital learning and outdoor learning equipment to enhance environmental education.
Sheddocksley Baptist Church fosters a strong community partnership with Fernieleas School. As part of this collaboration, the church hosts the school for whole-school services and conducts special assemblies within the school itself. This allows the school community to engage in reflective and mindful worship in a welcoming environment. The church is a friendly, community-based Christian church in the north-west of Aberdeen, Scotland.
