It has been a busy term fitting in a day walk, expeditions including presentations and weekly group meetings.
At the beginning of term, participants from the Silver DofE group went for a day walk around and up Scolty Hill near Banchory. Less than a week later the same participants successfully completed a three-day expedition through the Invercauld and Mar Lodge estates near Balmoral.
This session (2019/20), 32 S3 pupils have signed up to do their Bronze DofE. We have already had a couple of lunchtime meetings with weekly expedition training sessions beginning after the October holidays. We also hope some Senior pupils will sign up to do their Silver DofE in due course.
Last session’s Bronze and Silver participants have or are in the process of completing their DofE programmes. It is hoped all Bronze participants will have their DofE programme completed by December and Silver participants by April. Badge presentations usually take place at year assemblies with certificates presented at the end of year Awards Ceremony.
As part of DofE, participants also gain a Saltire ‘Approach’ Award to recognise their volunteering within the school or their local community.
Thank you to all the DofE Leaders that work with the participants on a weekly basis, to all members of staff that provide activities for the participants to do, and to all members of staff that support on an ad hoc basis i.e. driving minibuses.
