Biology Partnerships
Elasmogen
We collaborated with Elasmogen which is a therapeutic biologistic company that develop antibody molecules to tackle autoimmune disease and cancer. Our Advanced Higher Biology pupils had the opportunity to complete an experience day with Elasmogen which focused on 'Cells and Protein' which is part of the curriculum. Specially, pupils learnt how to detect and quantify soluble substances such as proteins, antibodies and hormones.
Aberdeen Biodiversity Centre
Aberdeen Biodiversity Centre is a Science and Environment education centre based within the University of Aberdeen. We aim to engage school children, local communities and the general public with science and the environment, through teacher training courses, school workshops and public events.
Our Advanced Higher Biology Pupils have had the opportunity to visit the Biodiversity Centre and carry out a taster day in fieldwork techniques which was delivered by an Environmental Biologist. This supported with curriculum delivery and specifically with sampling of wild organisms. For instance, using quadrats, pitfall traps, beating trays and sweep nets to capture species.

SLB
Green Power Car Club
Our car club involved S3 pupils who are interested in STEM careers and their challenged was to design, build, engineer and race an electric car. This was in collaboration with SLB and for 20 weeks, our pupils were mentored by SLB engineers to construct their own race car. We competed at the Grampian Heat F24 Race against other local schools, achieving third place and 'Best Presented Team'.
Also, we held mock interviews for our 'SLB STEM Pathways' experience days and 27 pupils were interviewed and we selected eight pupils to take part in our first pathways experience days. The SLB STEM Pathways allowed pupils to gain insights into STEM careers, learn what they entail and develop key employability skills.
