ACMS enjoys a close relationship with Dyce Academy
The Music School and the boarding facility share the same site as Dyce Academy.
Pupils attend Dyce Academy during the school day, and then attend ACMS after school on a Monday to Thursday basis. This provides time for a wide range of music study and practice. Pupils also receive approximately 4 hours of remission from academic work each week to allow them to have music lessons and practice time during the school day.
ACMS pupils will be expected to take their National 5 music qualification and Scottish Higher music qualification a year early.
A Week In the Life of An ACMS Pupil
MONDAY
08:00 ACMS opens doors to all pupils.
08:29 All pupils attend Registration
08:35 P1-2 School timetable begins. ACMS pupils attend school lessons or ACMS
(4 periods of the school timetable are dropped per week to attend ACMS for lessons or practice)
10:35 Break – pupils are welcome to attend ACMS in their break
10:55 P3-4. School lessons or ACMS practice / lessons
12:55 Lunch break. Pupils are welcome to attend ACMS for practice / scheduled lessons
13:45-15:45 P5-6. School lessons or ACMS practice / lessons
15:45 Break followed by ACMS practice / lessons / ensembles
17:00 Break. Tea in school canteen
18:00 Tutti Assembly
18:15 Improvisation & Rhythm classes / scheduled lessons / practice
19:45 Performance time – voluntary
20 :00 Home / Boarding
TUESDAY
As above to end of school day
15:45 Tutti Choir
16:30 Performance Classes x 2 - scheduled as per sheet on board
17:00 Tea / Break
17:30 Aural for G8 and above
