We enjoyed meeting with all of you at parent teacher conferences. Your dedication to your sons’ and daughters’ education is quite
admirable. It is a pleasure partnering with you at Classical School.
First Quarter Begins 11/1
Daylight Savings Time Ends 11/2
Thanksgiving Break (No School) 11/26, 11/27, 11/28
We will continue with our Vikings unit. The students will study about the raids and their adventures of exploration into Iceland and Greenland. We will also read about Leif Erickson and Erik the Red, completing an outline and writing piece based on our studies.
In science we will study weather! Students will learn about the earth's atmosphere, the movement of air, and how this affects weather and climate. Students will investigate weather data to predict weather. Finally, we will explore extreme weather and study how to reduce the impacts of hazardous weather.
Our poetry reading this month includes “Eletelephony,” “First Thanksgiving of All,” and “Tremendous Trifles.” The students will write their own tremendous trifles and understand truly what a trifle is.
In grammar this month, we will be working on prepositions and object of the prepositions. Hopefully by the end of the month, your child will be able to recite the preposition flow jingle for you!
Our next spelling test will be test 25. Please keep up on practicing those spelling words!
This month, your child will learn about emotions beyond good, bad, okay. We will also practice expressions with the verb tener.
In Reading Mastery 3 we are moving right along in our textbook. Every night your child should read all of the next day’s story with you. The nightly reading should take about 15 minutes with you sitting next to your child and making sure that they are pointing and allowing you to notice if they misread a word. This will better prepare them for class rather than rereading the lesson they did that day at school. After you finish reading together, please initial their bookmark.
We are reading another great book within our reading program. It is called “A Horse to Remember” by Juliana Hutchings. Continue reading with your students every evening and it is a “must” that they point as they read. The students are doing a super job at learning the new vocabulary.
I am so glad to see students turn in their homework completed every day. If you are looking for ways to assist your student at home, checking that your child has a label along with the answer when necessary is a great way to help. Most homework points lost are due to missing labels. Please continued to work on math facts each night at home. We will begin to work on multiplication very soon!
The Saxon 5/4 students impress me with their work ethic. If you are looking for ways to assist your student at home, checking that your child has a label along with the answer when necessary is a great way to help. Most homework points lost are due to missing labels. Students should be practicing their math facts a little each night. The students that perform the best in Saxon 5/4 are strong in their math facts. Students take timed addition, subtraction, or multiplication fact tests 2-3 times each week during the month of November.
