We can’t believe we are already in December! This school year is racing by. Before you know it, it will be winter break! We will have a class party to celebrate the end of 2025 on 12/23/25. The third grade classrooms would welcome donations of classroom treats for the celebration. Please contact Mrs. Alba or Mr. Coenen if you would be willing to donate Scooby Snacks (yes, they are on the approved snack list for AASD), or bottled water.

During December, we will explore our neighbors to the north. Our short unit on Canada will provide students with insights to the climate, culture, geography, and traditions of proviences of Canada.

The class is being challenged with pronouns, conjunctions, and helping verbs—oh my!

Our next test will be test 35. Keep up all of the great review. Practice a little bit each evening, just like practicing the piano.
We will be beginning Book B for Reading Mastery III. We will finish the story about Leonard the Inventor and then continue moving along with some more great stories. Please remember to keep reading every evening the lesson we had read in class that day, and to keep getting bookmarks signed!
During the month of December, we ill be finishing book A for Reading Mastery IV. We have two great stories, Buck, and The Adventure on Rocky Ridge, along with some shorter non-fiction articles. Please remember to keep reading each evening and getting bookmarks signed. We will start book B in January!
It truly so important to work with your children each evening on their facts. It can’t be optional and it builds an important foundation for their entire math career. We will continue to add more multiplication facts to their repertoire.
The Saxon 5/4 students impress me with their work ethic. Students should be practicing their math facts a little each night. We have moved into multiplication and division. If you are looking for ways to assist your student at home with homework, checking that your child has a label along with the answer when necessary is a great way to help. Most homework points lost are due to missing labels.
The virtue for this month is integrity. Having integrity means being honest and reliable. Please discuss with your child how they can exemplify integrity at home, at school, and in the community.
In December, students will review more detailed emotions and expressions with the verb "tener=to have." They will continue to practice classroom vocabulary including the location of objects with here, there, and over there, the gender of nouns in Spanish, adjective agreement, and basic prepositions.
