Keep up the good work. Remember to make studying spelling words a nightly routine. The words are becoming more difficult, but the students are meeting the challenge.
Coinciding with our study of Ancient Rome will be our consideration of Roman myths. The gods and goddesses created by the Romans were often borrowed from the Greeks and simply renamed. From these myths, the students will learn lessons about right and wrong, rewards and punishment. I know they will eagerly listen to the stories of heroes and supernatural beasts.
We will continue our study of the human body including learning about the nervous system and helpful body technology.
We will be traveling back in time to 753 B.C., the time of Ancient Rome. Our study will begin with the legend of Romulus and Remus, which tells about the dawning of Rome. The students will be intrigued hearing how Hannibal crossed the Alps with a large herd of elephants. The drama of Caesar’s life will be unraveled as the class hears how he rose to power, and how his enemies carried out their plan to destroy his life. Also, the class will become familiar with the Mediterranean Region by locating and identifying the countries of Italy, Greece, France, Spain, North Africa, and the Mediterranean and Adriatic seas.
In Reading Mastery 3 we are moving right along in our textbook. Every night your child should read all of the next day’s story with you. The nightly reading should take about 15 minutes with you sitting next to your child and making sure that they are pointing and allowing you to notice if they misread a word. This will better prepare them for class rather than rereading the lesson they did that day at school. After you finish reading together, please initial their bookmark.
There are so many great stories in our Reading Mastery IV book. Soon we will be reading The Prince and the Pauper. It is quite an intriguing story, so
continue to have your students read to you every
evening. Please edit their work for complete sentences. It is quite important that they begin with a capital letter, have the appropriate end mark, and include a subject and verb.
Most of the students know their addition and subtraction facts. However, many students are struggling with their multiplication facts. Keep working on those facts. They are crucial to a strong foundation in math. The students will be learning multi-digit multiplication and long division soon. Knowing the facts will really help with this! It is essential that the students complete their homework each evening to provide the practice necessary to be successful in math.
The Saxon 5/4 students impress me with their work ethic. Students should be practicing their math facts a little each night. The “memory group” facts seem to be the most difficult for many
students. If you are looking for ways to assist your student at home with homework, checking that your child has a label along with the answer when necessary is a great way to help. Most homework points lost are due to missing labels. Also, equivalency charts are in the textbook. Look to the lesson in parentheses under the problem number.
SPANISH: Students will review body parts with clothing and will practice with the verb llevar, to wear. Students will practice adjective agreement.
