We will be following Alice as she meets a wide variety of characters in the book Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. It truly is an exciting book to read as the plot is highly unpredictable. We will be getting the students excited to play croquet in May!
We also will be reading many Roman myths which are full of good life lessons.
Our month of April is super busy with Forward Testing, I-Reading Testing, ACT 20 testing and KAT. We look forward to starting a unit on life cycles once all our testing is complete!
We will continue in our intriguing study of Ancient Rome. The city of Pompeii will be uncovered discovering all the riches that were left behind. Our study will include the “decline and fall” of Rome, meeting along the way Nero and Attila the Hun. The students will also be introduced to Constantine, the first Christian emperor and the Justinian Code.
In Reading Mastery 3 we will continue reading in book C. We will continue working on mirroring the question and writing answers in complete sentences on the textbook questions. Please look closely at which questions should be in complete sentence. Students should still be reading 15 minutes per night. Don't forget to cover your students book and sign their bookmark!
As I am sure that you have noticed, we are close to finishing our Reading Mastery book. We will be reading The Railway Children. It is still very important to have your child read with you consistently each evening. Your children will reap huge benefits from this daily practice.
I am so glad to see these students turning in their homework diligently each day. The math is becoming quickly more difficult and so it is very essential for the students to practice their multiplication and division facts. They need to know them as well as they know their addition and subtraction facts. Daily fact homework, flash cards, and online games to practice facts will help enhance student skills.
The Saxon 5/4 students impress me with their work ethic. Students should be practicing their math facts a little each night. The “memory group” facts seem to be the most difficult for many students. If you are looking for ways to assist your student at home with homework, checking that your child has a label along with the answer when necessary is a great way to help. Most homework points lost are due to missing labels. Also, equivalency charts are in the textbook. Look to the lesson in parentheses under the problem number.
Keep up the good work. Remember to make studying spelling words a nightly routine. The words are becoming more difficult, but the students are meeting the challenge.
Students will learn about restaurant expressions, ordering food, food related items, and how to make a request.
This month I have maternity leave, and Ann Marie Nelson will be my long term sub. She has a background in Spanish Bilingual Education, and she also subbed for me last time, I am very thankful for her! You can reach her email at: nelsonann@aasd.k12.wi.us.
