Why Practice Typing?

Twenty-first century students need to have good keyboarding skills in order to be successful in our device-filled world. From school assignments to basic communication, proper and speedy typing skills will help our kids in countless ways. Like any skill, some kids pick up keyboarding easily, while for others, a great deal of practice is required.

The first 10 minutes of each library class is set aside for keyboarding practice in grades 1st - 5th. For families wishing to supplement their child’s typing time, students can use Typing Club at home. Practice makes perfect -- or at least better!

Use Typing Club in whatever way you think best, as often as you like. Here is what students are reminded of in library class:

• Take your time to build the correct muscle memory necessary to grow your typing skills in a positive way.

• All ten fingers in proper position on the home row is an important habit.

• The goal is to NOT look at your hands. This is a skill that will grow with time.

• Someday this WILL be easy, and you'll be a typing pro!
