General Information

Who Works in the Library?

Our school library is staffed by two people who love to spread the joy of reading to our young learners: Ms. Player and Ms. Eaddy! Ms. Player is our certified teacher librarian. She teaches the library "special" to all classes Y5-5th. Ms. Player is full-time in the library. Ms. Eaddy is our library clerk. She processes new books and manages the library catalog. Ms. Eaddy is in the library at Eberwhite on Tuesdays this year.

Borrowing Books

By the end of September, your child will bring home books they borrowed from the school library.  Your child will continue to borrow new books on a weekly basis during their scheduled library time.

Borrowing privileges for each grade level are:

*Y5 & K- 1 book

*1st & 2nd- 2 books

*3rd, 4th & 5th- 3 books

Print books are always due back on your child’s scheduled library day, unless your child requests to renew their book(s) during library class.  Your child may only check out new books if their previous books have been returned.  Overdue notices will be emailed home to families at the end of each month for your reference.

All students also have full access to the digital collection on Sora (the school version of Libby).

Borrowing privileges are:

*AAPS collection- 2 books at a time, up to 14 per week

*MCLS collection (serviced through the AADL)- 15 books at a time, up to 225 per week

Positive reading experiences with your child will increase their appreciation of good literature and help to develop a lifelong love for reading and for the library.  It will also provide memories that will last for years to come!

Please support your child by:

1. Finding a safe place to keep school library books to avoid damage or loss.

2. Reminding your child to have clean hands when reading their library books and to turn the pages carefully.

3. Reminding your child to keep their library books away from pets or younger siblings to avoid damage or loss.

4. Returning borrowed books every week (unless requesting renewal) on their library day at school.

Library Class

Each library class is taught by Eberwhite's certified teacher librarian, Ms. Player.  It includes instruction in library usage skills, technology skills, online safety, digital citizenship, keyboarding basics and research.  Each classroom visits the library during their "specials" time, at least once per week.

Library Communication

Important information regarding our library program will be shared periodically in your child's classroom teacher's weekly newsletter and in the parent newsletter from Ms. Hubbard.

If you need to contact the library directly, please send an email to Mrs. Player at players@aaps.k12.mi.us.  Please leave your name, your child's name, and your child's teacher's name when inquiring about their patron status.  I will respond to your email within 24 hours.

Overdue Notices

Overdue notices will be emailed to families at the end of each month for students who have overdue books.  Please help your child practice responsibility by making it a routine to return their library books on their library day.

Book Care

One of the skills we emphasize and practice in library class is respect for our resources.

If a book is lost or damaged beyond repair, we kindly ask you to replace it. You may replace the lost or damaged book by purchasing another hardcover copy from a local or online bookstore.  If replacing the book is a financial hardship, please email Mrs. Player at players@aaps.k12.mi.us.
