This year is going to be an exciting year in Math! Check back to this site frequently to keep up on what is going on in your class!! Also, please be sure to click the appropriate tab under "Math" so that you are viewing current information. The tabs are organized by the books/units we study.
This year we will focus on four critical areas: (1) connecting ratio and rate to whole number multiplication and division and using concepts of ratio and rate to solve problems; (2) completing understanding of division of fractions and extending the notion of number to the system of rational numbers, which includes negative numbers; (3) writing, interpreting, and using expressions and equations; and (4) developing understanding of statistical thinking. As we focus on these four areas, we will emphasize making sense of problems and persevering in solving them. We will learn to reason abstractly and quantitatively, and construct viable arguments, while critiquing the reasoning of others. Throughout the year, we will help students gain the skills and knowledge necessary to be successful.
