Ensure you have completed the online/open book Instructor/Proctor Training (takes less than an hour/valid for 3 years).
Reminder...You must be a ServSafe Instructor Proctor so you can administer the ServSafe exam to all Culinary 1 students. Your CTE Academic Specialist can help navigate you to this training on the ServSafe website however any account/login issues would need to be resolved with ServSafe customer service.
Complete the online ServeSafe training course within 90 days of beginning the course (your CTE Academic Specialist will purchase for you).
Once you’ve completed or anticipate completing the training, schedule your CTE Academic Specialist to come to your school to administer/proctor your exam. This date must be at least 2 weeks out from when you contact your CTE Academic Specialist; per ServSafe, exams must be ordered two weeks in advance.
Your CTE Academic Specialist will come to your school to administer the exam. The exam can be taken during your planning, before or after or before school.
After passing the exam, complete the online/open book Instructor/Proctor Training (takes less than an hour).
For the online ServSafe Training course,
After beginning the course, you have 90 days to complete the training.
Completing the training is estimated at 10 hours for initial certification (6 hours alotted for renewal).
Once you successfully complete the training and pass the exam, you will submit a Time-Task Breakdown sheet for up to 10 hours (6 hours for renewal) of stipend @ $30/hour.
In order to be a registered ProStart school, ProStart requires teachers to attend a Summer Bootcamp Professional Development every other year.
AACPS will pay registration fees. Your CTE Academic Teacher Specialist will contact regarding registration.
You will be compensated the negotiated stipend rate based on the hours of the Professional Development.

ProStart
⭐All Level 1 Culinary/ProStart students are expected to take the ProStart exam on the official NRAEF scantron.
At the beginning of the school year, you will receive emails from the liaison at RAM to ensure you and your school are registered ProStart schools. This allows you to administer the ProStart exam.
To schedule the exam, you login into your https://myprostart.chooserestaurants.org/, schedule the exam, print the exam/answer key, photocopy the amount of exams for which you registered.
At least 1 week before your scheduled exam; request the official NRAEF answer scantrons from your CTE Academic Specialist... It takes a minimum of 1 week to basketmail the ordered scantrons to your school.
Scantrons get mailed to NRAEF for grading, per the directions when scheduling.
ServSafe
⭐All Level 2 Culinary/ProStart students are expected to take the ServSafe exam.
⭐You MUST be ServSafe certified AND a ServSafe Instructor/Proctor (see Teacher Certification) to administer the ServSafe exam to students.
At least two weeks prior to the date you want to test; schedule your ServSafe exam for your Culinary 1 students from the ServSafe website.
ServSafe mails your sealed exams with detailed instruction on administration and return for grading.
At least 1 week before your scheduled exam; request the official ServSafe answer scantrons from your CTE Academic Specialist... It takes a minimum of 1 week to basketmail the ordered scantrons to your school.
📕How to order the exams
Remember, you must have completed the Instructor/Proctor Training. This may take a phone call to ServSafe to have them update your records
Login to ServSafe > click Instructor/Proctor > scroll down to Exam Activities > click Schedule Exam > click I Accept > click Print Exam > complete required information.
Level 2 Culinary/ProStart students takes ProStart exam on the official NRAEF scantron ONLY if they are in an appropriate internship.
💡Encourage students who are completers to achieve COA. If the student is already in an internship to be a completer, COA is easy to achieve.
