What Is the Personal Project?
A personal and creative assignment initiated by the student that has a purpose related to the larger community in which they live
A student-directed inquiry aimed at developing the skills necessary to be an independent, lifelong learner
A differentiated learning opportunity that allows for expression according to students’ individual needs
What are the benefits of the Personal Project?
It is an opportunity for students to independently explore a topic and field which they are passionate about
It will serve as a great example to reference in college admission essays and/or job interviews
It grants students the ability to take initiative, think critically, and communicate effectively - a few of the many skills needed to be college and career ready
It will allow students to receive recognition on their high school transcripts
The Personal Project is a requirement of ALL 9th/10th grade students at AHS, as it satisfies the MD Service Learning Requirement. The project has three parts - Parts A, B, and C, along with the original "product" that students create. Students begin the project (Part A) in their 9th grade year through their GCC and English 9 courses. Students will continue their project through their 10th-grade year, picking up Part B in their Government classes. Please ask your student if they have written their Personal Project Part A Essay - if not, they should complete it in their class' Personal Projects CANVAS, ASAP!
