Curriculum

We use Wonders to teach reading, grammar, writing, and spelling. For math instruction we will be using Into Math, which is a new version of the Go Math program which we have been using for many years. We also will continue the at home reading program called Book It.  We will be continuing our social/ emotional learning curriculum called Character Strong.

Woodland Elementary School follows the Illinois Common Core State Standards.  The math CCSS divides the math content up among the grades and each year the students will focus on certain math topics and will develop a deeper understanding of the concepts. The math CC standards emphasize doing math problems in many different ways to help students understand number sense and that there may be more than one way to solve a problem.  In reading the CC standards include non-fiction text and fiction text and reading the text closely to understand the meaning. The CC standards for language (grammar) will be woven into our writing curriculum.
