A CT Angiogram was performed. An axial image is shown on the left. Coronal (middle) and sagittal (right) reconstructions are also included.

Questions

  1. Where is the abnormality located?
  2. There is an aneurysm arising from the anterior communicating artery.
  3. What are the different treatment options for this abnormality?
    1. Aneurysms can be treated with surgical clipping, endovascular coiling (as was done in this case) or observation. This patient was taken to the angio suite for endovascular coiling. Notice on the image on the left you can see the aneurysm filling with contrast. On the image after embolization, the aneurysm no longer fills with contrast.
