What service should be consulted immediately?
Neurosurgery should be consulted immediately. Based on the patient's clinical presentation and stability, patients may be closely monitored or be taken to the OR for surgical decompression. This patient was monitored closely and a follow up CT examination was performed 3 hours after initial presentation to assess for growth of the hematoma. Notice how the hematoma has increased in size over the 3 hour interval. The patient was subsequently taken to the OR.
