Dear Spruces Land Use Committee,

As co-administrators of the Bee Friendly Williamstown campaign, we wanted to let you know that the campaign is organizing a community planting at the southeastern (pond) edge of The Spruces this coming Sunday, May 27, 1–4pm.

This planting is being done in coordination with Town (SLUC) plans to locate 2 picnic tables in the meadowed portion on the northern side of the pond. Recreational access will be preserved through regular mowing to identify the walkable areas.

Community volunteers willl be planting 44 shrubs (red twig dogwood, button bush, yellow twig dogwood, pussy willow and clethra) between the pond and the sidewalk along Route 2/Main St., in order to provide pollinator forage and habitat, and enhance the potential of The Spruces as a natural oasis. We are thankful for a donation of 10 bags of organic compost from Aubuchon Hardware to support this project. The plants have been purchased from Nasami Farm/New England Wildflower Society, and funded by a grant received from TURI (Toxics Use Reduction Institute) at UMass Lowell.

Thank you,

Anne O'Connor + Bridget Spann, Co-Administrators of Bee Friendly Williamstown
