The Williamstown Community Chest are sponsoring a program entitled “Sand for Seniors” which is exactly what it sounds like. Aubichon Hardware in the Colonial Shopping Center has donated 50 one gallon pails which will be filled and distributed to seniors in town in anticipation of snow and ice…Pails will be distributed on November 29th as part of a “Giving Tuesday” commemoration and requests for pails may be made to the Community Chest at 458.2443 or the Council on Aging at 458.8250.

COA Van Operator Jackie Lemieux, Loss Group Counsellor Corrine case and AMP Program Leader Jennifer Munoz have been recognized with Neighborly Awards by the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition. Lemieux was recognized for helping to set up charitable road races, Case for assisting individuals with addictions and Muñoz for the work she does with community gardening. While none of these awards were related to their work with the COA, we appreciate having these wonderful people as colleagues and co-workers!

Eleanor Derby-Kilfoyle from Hospice Care in the Berkshires will present on the topic of Hospice, it’s services and when someone should consider requesting this service. The conversation with Kilfoyle begins at 12:30 and is preceded by a luncheon at noon. 458.8250 to reserve food, the conversation is open to all.

Seniors 62 YO and older who are alone on Thanksgiving and have no way to access a traditional meal but who are interested in receiving one are encourage to contact All Saints Episcopal Church at 664.9656 and a Turkey dinner with all the fixings will be delivered on Thanksgiving for lunch directly to each person’s home. Reservations are needed to access the program by November 18 please! The church office is open from Monday to Thursday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM or leave a message –Name, town, Address and telephone please!

If you’re a Medicare Advantage plan subscriber or have a Medicare Prescription Drug plan you should have received information via mail at least by the end of September and if you have not, please let the COA know at 458.8250. The information explains changes in these programs going forward so if you have paper on this subject, please do not throw it out!

The annual open enrollment period, where you can make changes in your personal plan or enroll in new options for yourself until December 7th this year. Individuals needing assistance with health insurance changes, initiating policies or the general alphabet soup which comprises insurance can find that by calling the COA at 458.8250 and we’ll arrange an appointment with our SHINE insurance counsellors.
