Classes K-7 are called SOAR. This stands for social/emotional, occupational, academic readiness. The name encompasses the domains from the American School Counselor Association (ASCA).
Classes kindergarten to 4th grade have lessons once a week with me, every week, all year long. This provides the opportunity to learn proactive behaviors and skills with their whole class. Lessons work to meet the standards set by the American School Counselor Association (ASCA) and connect from year to year. New units are introduced as needed or lessons are adjusted/moved depending on what the class needs at a given time.
Units planned to be included for the 2025-2026 year include:
Kindergarten: listening skills, being unique and our differences, emotions (recognition, physical feelings of our emotions, coping skills), Zones of Regulation
1st grade: listening skills, how our brain works and "flipping a lid", coping skills for managing emotions, teamwork
2nd grade: leadership, how we think and how our thinking impacts feelings and actions, calming and coping skills, communication and conflict resolution, careers
3rd grade: growth mindset, leadership, self esteem, careers
4th grade: mistakes and self esteem, stereotypes, careers, teamwork
