Please send in a smock for art class.  Old button-down shirts with long sleeves make the best smocks as they cover kindergarten clothing the fullest.  I would discourage the small plastic aprons.

Kindergarten Content:  Kindergarteners will work with the basic elements of art:  color, line, shape, space and texture as well as produce  art projects which coordinate with their kindergarten curriculum and New York State Visual Arts Standards.

Students will work to create  both 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional artwork, develop skills in cutting, gluing and painting, as well as learn positive social behavior.  

In the primary grades there is an emphasis on the importance of following directions.

Possible Topics:

     Different types of media such as crayon, pencil, marker, paint, clay    and paper

     Basic skills such as making marks, cutting, gluing and painting

     Visual elements of line, shape, texture, color and space

     Artworks and how images convey ideas

     How their own artwork reflects their experiences

     Kindergarten curriculum such as weather, seasons, transportation, animals......

     Holiday and seasonal art

Grading:

    The kindergarten report card art grade criteria are listed as:

                    Craftmanship:  demonstrates skill and applies knowledge using art materials

                    Attitude:  demonstrates effort, cooperation and ability to follow directions
