Please send in a smock for art class.   Old button-down shirts with long sleeves make the best smocks as they cover clothing the fullest.  I would discourage the small plastic aprons.  

2nd Grade Art Class Content:

     Second graders will work with the basic elements of art:  color, line, shape, space and texture, as well as create art projects which coordinate with the second grade curriculum. 

     Students will work to create both 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional art, develop skill in cutting, gluing and painting as well as learn positive social behavior.

In the primary grades there is an emphasis on the importance of following directions.

Possible Topics:   

     Different types of media such as crayon, pencil, marker, paint, clay, paper

     Basic skills such as making marks, cutting, gluing and painting

     Visual elements of line, shape, texture, space and color

     Artworks and how images convey ideas

     How their own artwork reflects their experiences

     Second grade curriculum such as dinosaurs

     Ideas and symbols in the artworks of various artists and cultures

     Holiday and seasonal art

Report card art grading criteria are listed as:

             Craftmanship:  Demonstrates skill and applies knowledge using art materials

             Attitude:  Demonstrates effort, cooperation and ability to follow directions
