Fourth grade art class will continue working with the basic elements of art:  color, line, shape, space and texture, work both 2 Dimensionally and 3 Dimensionally, and lessons will follow New York State Standards and classroom curriculum.  Art projects will encompass Art History, study of specific artists and their styles, art from other cultures, and will make students aware of the close connection art has with math, science and everyday life.

Possible Topics:

    Using different types of media for drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture

    Basic skills in painting, clay work

    Using media and techniques to communicate ideas

    Using the visual elements of line, shape, texture, space, color, symbols and pattern to create

       2D and 3D artwork

    Color families and color schemes

    Art from different times, cultures  and places

    Simple 1 point perspective

    Artists and their place in style in art history

    Functions of art

    Art versus craft

    Holiday and seasonal art

    Flexibility in problem solving

    Creating artworks using a variety of subject matter, symbols and themes

Report Card art grading criteria are listed as:

              Craftmanship:  demonstrates skill and applies knowledge using art materials

              Attitude:  demonstrates effort, cooperation and ability to follow directions

                     Fourth grade will begin  receiving numerical grades this year
