The Nominating Committee for the University Faculty Assembly shall also be the Election Committee. The Nomination and Election Committee shall ensure the election of Assembly Officers and Senators based on an annual or biennial manner.

A. The Nomination and Election Committee of the Faculty Senate will provide a list of at least two nominees annually for President-Elect and at least two nominees biannually for Secretary-Treasurer no later than the April Meeting of the Faculty Senate. Presentation to the Assembly of a ballot with only one name for either office shall require approval by majority vote of the Senate. This list will be composed so that candidates are drawn from the entire University Faculty Assembly. To serve as an officer of the Assembly, an individual must be stationed within a fifty-mile radius of the University.
B. The office of President-Elect will be elected annually and the office of Secretary-Treasurer will be elected biannually by secret ballot from a slate of candidates submitted by the Nomination and Election Committee. Candidates will have been proposed either by members of the Nomination and Election Committee or by any member of the University Faculty Assembly. The committee will directly contact all prospective candidates for their consent to the nomination prior to their inclusion in the published ballot.
C. The ballot will be sent to all University Faculty Assembly in May with a final response date in June.
D. The candidate receiving the greatest number of votes for each office shall be declared the winner of the election for that position.
E. The term of office will commence and terminate in the month of July. In the event that the newly elected officers are unable to assume their responsibilities within the prescribed time, the sitting officers will continue in their duties.
F. In the case of the President-Elect and Secretary Treasurer, should the office be vacated, a special election shall be held to fill the vacancy. The Nomination and Election Committee will recommend the election procedure to the Senate.
G. The President, USUHS, vice-presidents, deans, deputy, associate and assistant deans, departmental chairpersons and faculty who are administrative officers of the University or its constituent schools and institutes, or who are serving residents or trainees, are ineligible for nomination and election as officers of the Assembly.
H. No member of the Assembly shall hold more than one office concurrently. Only the Secretary-Treasurer may succeed himself/herself in office, and only for one term, if duly nominated and elected in the subsequent year’s election.
I. The Nomination and Election Committee will serve as a standing committee of the Faculty Senate. The committee will consist of a Chairperson and members of the University Faculty Assembly, representing all schools from the university. The Committee Chair and members will be appointed by the President of the Senate and will serve until completion of the electoral process. The number of serving senators on the Nomination and Election Committee will not exceed the number of schools and colleges that comprise the Senate. None may be concurrently an Officer of the Assembly. None may serve more than two consecutive terms.
