Dr. Llewellyn J. Legters was the Chair of the Department of Preventive Medicine and Biometrics (now Biostatistics) at USU from 1980 to 1997, a period during which PMB grew from a faculty of five to more than 40. An expert in tropical medicine, Dr. Legters’ research in population health, relevant to the military, was cutting edge and had an international focus—an early example of global health research.
In collaboration with the Office of the Vice President of Research, the Llewellyn J. Legters Award for Excellence in Population Health Research was inaugurated in 2019. The Legters Award recognizes excellence in Population Health Research.
