Feelings:
Zones of Regulation

K-6 students identify feelings and link them to colors used in Zones of Regulation.

K-2 students discuss how characters in their books feel and what Zone they are in. What does that feel like to experience being sad or in the blue zone? We all may need help some times to deal with our BIG feelings. There are many safekeepers at school and at home to help.

3-6 students identify their feelings, name their feelings, find safe ways to deal with their feelings, and discussing how they can get back to the green zone. Some times we need help from an adult or friend to remind us to calm.

From the students...

  • If I get angry, I should just breathe.

  • When I was sad, my dad gave me a bandaid.

  • It feels good to be happy.

  • I like to feel calm.

  • I can punch my pillow to help get me out of the red zone safely.

It is important for each of us to look with loving eyes or try to see positive intent in others (Conscious Discipline, Dr. Becky Bailey).
