What is the culture in Minnesota like? Are the arts valued? Are there opportunities for gigging, subbing, and performing?
The culture in the Twin Cities is very “arts’ centric. We are one of the few urban area that supports two full time orchestras, as well as the Minnesota Opera. There are opportunities for gigging, subbing and performing. However, as a full time student you would be expected to focus your energies on your degree program. With that in mind, several of our hardworking and successful U of M grads are substitue musicians with the Minnesota Orchestra and one (Matt Wilson) is second horn with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra.
