At the University of Minnesota, we thoroughly prepare our students to meet their professional goals. Those goals may be in performance, where a student is intensely focused on playing in a professional full-time ensemble or in communicating their unique solo voice. The goal may be to work in the academic world, where a student is focused on being both a high-level musician and well-versed in various academic aspects of music. The University of Minnesota has a very well regarded music education program with excellent job placement, where music education horn majors prepare themselves in the arts of teaching and musicianship that will allow them, and their students, to thrive in the K-12 classroom. Additionally, we have a highly regarded music therapy program that prepares the horn student for a profession that utilizes music to address non-musical goals. The UMN horn studio fosters an attitude where intensely focused and purposeful study is structured to realize each student's full musical potential, and is conducted in a cooperative and friendly environment of highly talented aspiring professionals. The University of Minnesota is a challenging, yet encouraging and supportive environment for horn players. We believe in a "win-win" environment in which students help each other to succeed.
