It is produced by the National Institutes of Health. The site includes studies in the United States and around the world. You can find information on new treatments, study results, and ways to participate. You can search for disease or condition, drug or treatment, sponsor, or location.
Let's imagine that your friend has just been diagnosed for scleroderma. Scleroderma means hard skin. It causes the tissue in skin, blood vessels, and organs to become hard and tight. The cause and cure is unknown. Let's use ClinicalTrials.gov to see what research is being done to treat scleroderma.
Type ClinicalTrials.gov into the address bar. Hit "enter" on your keyboard. This is the homepage. Return here at anytime by clicking on the logo. You may wish to start at Background information. Background information explains how clinical trials work, who can participate, and the benefits and risks of participating.
Let's return to the homepage to start our search. Type your search term here. We'll enter "scleroderma". Then click "search". The search results display. This is the number of results. A green status means the trial is open. A red status means the trial is closed.
To narrow your search, click "Refine Search". On the "Refine Search" screen, you can add more details to your search, such as age, gender, and location. Then click "search". Your results display. If there are no results, return here and remove some details.
When you find a study you want to read about, click on the name. The study displays. This page describes the purpose, who can participate, and contact information. If a study has results, you will see a tab that says "Study Results". Click to view results.
