Rebecca Mitchell, MSPhD candidate, Institute of Genetic Medicine, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
(BS in Forensic Science from Penn State University and MS in Biotechnology
from Johns Hopkins)
BWF PUP program: Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health "MD-GEM: The Maryland Genetic, Epidemiology, and Medicine Training Program"
Interests: The focus on my research is on identifying genes associated with increased risk for Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) using computational tools and statistical analysis.
Current Projects: One of my projects is a targeted sequencing of the SCD1 locus which was found to be associated with increased risk for SCD through a genome-wide association study (GWAS). My project focuses on identifying potential causal gene(s) and functional variant(s) within this locus associated with SCD risk. Another project focuses on identifying additional loci associated with SCD through a genome-wide association study and studying casual relationships using mendelian randomization methods.
