Research interests: Fungal pathogens, specifically Candida spp., and would like to increase the number treatment options for candidiasis.
Current Projects: In collaboration with the Centers for Disease Control, I perform surveillance of Candidemia at the New York Emerging Infection Program site in order to understand the epidemiologic characteristics associated with this disease which includes species distribution, risk factors, comorbidities, antifungal drug resistance, and outcome. On the basic science end, I am performing a drug screen using susceptible and resistant strains (clinical isolates) of Candida to identify compounds that are fungicidal and are not affected by current resistance mechanisms to first line treatment antifungals.
