Supporting Mathematical Literacy with Graphic Organizers
As a graduate student in the reading in content areas course, I wrote this research paper about graphic organizers. It explores the origins of graphic organizers, and how they can be used to aid students with mathematics. The short answer is that well-designed graphic organizers can be used to help students improve their abilities to solve word problems.
Crop Circle Lesson Plan
I also wrote this lesson plan in collaboration with Steven Racine. The lesson plan integrates literacy with mathematics, as students will read about a crop circle that appeared near Stonehenge in 1996 and will make geometric calculations pertaining to the crop circle.
