As educators, we are ultimately preparing our students for their adult lives. Although instilling our students with academic knowledge is our main job, teachers need to provide students with more than just academic support. We must always put students' needs first and demonstrate that we're genuinely interested in their lives and that we care about them. Good teachers must go the extra mile and strive to develop positive relationships with each of our students. Effective teachers are more than just educators; we are role models, mentors, supporters, friends, and when necessary disciplinarians to our students. We need to make our students enthusiastic about learning and help them develop the skills needed to be lifelong learners. To accomplish this, we must be passionate about the subjects we teach and try to instill our own excitement for our subject matter into our students. We shouldn't simply lecture from the front of the room, instead we should lead class discussions and interact one-on-one with students to help them reach the desired learning outcomes. It is our job to help each student reach their maximum potential. To accomplish this, we must provide stimulating work for each student. Differentiating our instruction allows every student to be intellectually stimulated, and demonstrate their full abilities. Teachers must be patient and compassionate, as the classroom must be a supportive and respectful environment for all students. All ideas expressed and questions asked must be respected - there are no “stupid questions.”
