The Thermal Engineering Group conducts research in Thermal Engineering, especially within the field of technology for producing cold and its applications. The group’s main lines of research are: (i) increasing the energy efficiency of simple vapour compression facilities; (ii) increasing the energy efficiency of double vapour compression facilities; (iii) introducing environmentally harmless natural fluids as refrigerating agents (CO2); (iv) recovery of the thermal energy released in medium- and low-level hot spots, for the activation of ORCs, Absorption and Adsorption; and (v) application of new methods of producing cold, without using HFC fluids, such as Vortex, Absorption and Adsorption.
